To celebrate the launch of the Cultural Olympiad, Inside Out presented Veles e Vents (Wind and Sails), a spectacular large-scale outdoor performance at Bowleaze Cove, Weymouth, overlooking the London 2012 Games sailing course. 

Created by acclaimed Spanish artists, Xarxa Teatre, Vele e Vents (Wind and Sails) charts the story of a dangerous journey at sea through live performance, music and pyrotechnics.


Leading up to the event, over 250 young people across the region were encouraged to create their own stories of the sea, working with local artists.


The Cultural Olympiad is a four year celebration of the cultural and sporting life of the nation in the build up to the 2012 Games.  In the South West this will take the form of a series of journeys through the landscape, linking coast to mainland and urban to rural communities, in search of the extraordinary stories, people and places that define us.


Hundreds of events took place all over the country to celebrate the launch of the Cultural Olympiad. In Weymouth and Portland, this included the B-Side arts festival and a dance event by Dance South West and ACTIVATE
